EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND INCLUSION

Where are we now?

In 2022 I stood for a Jersey where every person regardless of background, ability, age or origin has a fair chance to contribute and to thrive. That commitment has not changed.

What I will continue to push for as your States Member:

Jersey is a diverse community and St Helier reflects that diversity most clearly. I will continue to push for policies that reduce inequality, support those who face barriers, and ensure public services reach the people who need them most.

As Constable, inclusion is not a policy add-on it is central to how I approach Parish leadership.

The Conseil Municipal I will establish is designed to bring in voices that are often absent from Parish decisions: young people, newer residents, minority communities. Accessible meeting times, online participation, and regular drop-ins are practical steps to make sure the Parish works for everyone, not just those who have always found it easy to engage.

St Helier is mini-Jersey. Its strength is its diversity. My job is to make sure everyone who lives here feels they belong.

I believe Jersey is big enough to be a diverse community, and small enough to be a caring community.

I believe a successful and flourishing Jersey is dependent upon the collective efforts, financial contributions and good will of the business sector, the government, charities and all permanent residents.

I will continue to:

listen to the community and by doing so to re-establish faith in its political representatives;

Promote and create practical opportunities for all ages to participate in active multi-generational activities.

Create a strong caring community which respects all cultures and encourages full participation of all groups in our society.

Supporting Our Senior Citizens:

I will continue to  develop community hubs: These are clubs and social groups for all ages, situated in our highly populated areas such as La  Pouquelaye, the West of town and First Tower. These aim to decrease the isolation experienced by young parents, the elderly, the disabled and other vulnerable groups.

Support for Senior Citizens

·  Working towards an action plan that will enable elderly people to feel that they are an active and considered part of society;

·  Embracing the use of modern technology to remove the fear that many elderly people have of it. Such activity will be part of a strategy to enable older people stay as long as possible in their own homes and communities; and

·  Enabling older people to get out and about by providing appropriate transportation (e.g. ‘hopper’ buses) to encourage their engagement in enjoyable and meaningful activities thus reducing social isolation;
