Reviewing parking to find balanced solutions for residents, businesses and visitors, while maintaining an attractive town

📊 You told me:
“Sort out residents’ permits.” “Parking is too expensive.” “Think about local businesses.”

Parking is one of the most practical, everyday issues affecting life in St Helier. Get it wrong and residents cannot park near their homes, businesses lose customers, and visitors are put off coming into town. Get it right and it supports a thriving, accessible Parish that works for everyone.
Parking changes can be contentious. I will not make changes behind closed doors or without proper consultation. As your Constable, I will approach parking fairly and transparently.

I will:

  • Talk to residents and businesses before making changes
  • Review how the current system works in practice
  • Identify where the system is not fair or not working
  • Explore smarter, more flexible parking solutions that reflect how people actually use the town
  • Publish the evidence behind decisions clearly
  • Review the impact of changes once implemented and adjust if needed
  • Ensure the Parish is transparent about how parking income is used

This is about finding solutions that are realistic, balanced and locally informed, creating a joined-up approach across the Parish working with the Infrastructure Minister so that different areas and user groups are considered together rather than in isolation.
